South Sudan and Congolese Refugee Influx in Uganda

Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) presented to Cabinet information on Sudan and Congolese refugee influx in a bid raise a supplementary budget. Meanwhile Office of the Prime Minister is carrying more consultations with key partners and communities involved, implemented a number initiatives to address the challenges of refugees. These include:

1.   Consultations: Meeting Consultations held with Heads of Foreign Missions and Inter Agencies on Thursday 9th January 2014 at OPM Headquarters Conference Hall share and internalize the status of the refugee influx.

2. Refugee Registration: Physical assessment was conducted with a team of 15 Registration Officers who traveled to Arua, Adjuman and Kiryadongo and toke charge to register refugees from South Sudan.

3.   Communities Offer Support: Adjuman District Local Government offered Land for resettling refugees to Office of the Prime Minister.

4.   Health Precautions Taken: Hapatitis B outbreak infection has been reported as a likely threat from Refugees in the West Nile Region.  Ministry of Health and World Health Organization duly informed.

5.  Preparations Made: Survey of Kyangwali Refugee Settlement land started on 4th January 2014
      and it is still ongoing.

6.  Refugee Relocations Done: A convoy of 305 refugees was relocated from Bundibugyo to Kyangwali Refugee Settlement.  744 from Kisoro to Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement.
